Re: Re: Re: RE: a world without cels... the sad facts (Mon Apr 24 09:53:55 2000
I agree completely about fanart cels. They might be well made, but again, for me a major part of the thrill is owning an actual piece of the anime and being able to recognize your cel while watching. To me, fanart cels are just small posters made using a different medium. And fanart cels, even if hand-painted, are not necessarily "original" since an artist could use the same drawing for several cels. I commend all the fanart artists on their skill, but sorry, I would never spend my money on one. I guess I am just trying to say that for me, I would rather collect genga than repro-cels or fanart cels even if the cels are more colorful. I get a so much of my satisfaction from owning something from the show. There is just something about it that is so special, no repro can replace that feeling. For me, I guess when all studios go digital, I will just scour for the remnants of "old" cels. I'll watch for collectors to tire of their cels and want money for them. I don't think that I would "quit" collecting, but I would not necessarily buy either gengas or repros just because what I like really want is no longer available. But that's just my opinion...
