What does "kabese" have to do with cels? (Thu May 13 21:32:58 1999 )

Hi,

I got several cels that have an extra layer of "kabese" written
on it. I looked up in the dictionary: "kabe" means "wall", and "se"
means "back-up layer" more or less. If the definitions I got were right,
then why do some cels need those extra layers? These layers are generally
back skeleton lines always on top of the image on the bottom layer, sometimes
with some extra coloring or minor addition to be added to the main image layer.
What is the purpose of that?

Thank you in advance for resolving this mistery for me!
