Hello.
I don't understand... isn't it better to practice a language you
don't know well with people more learned than you who can correct
your mistakes? Especially in a spirit of fun and a public forum it
seems more like trying to play scrabble in a different language than
trying to put yourself up as being someone truly fluent.
The tiny bits of Japanese I know are entirely verbal, because they
are the result of my trying to be polite around my Japanese friends and
in stores and restaurants where Japanese is the main language.
This is such a different argument from what I usually hear here in the
US that everyone should speak English because we Americans can't be bothered
to learn anything else! Should we then be limited to speaking English because
since we aren't fluent in another language and therefore we shouldn't
even bother to try?
