Actualy I saw several AMG cels with background... Including
this one : http://www.animanga.com/cels... :)

Yes, usualy the background aren't painted by the studio
directy. If you look at some of their recent anime,
including Shin Tenchi, you will sometime see a "stamp"
of the studio that did the background.
