Re: Question: How do you feel about NON-FAN hand produced 1/1 cels? (Thu Apr 27 05:45:11 2000 )

For me personally, they aren't really any better than the
ones of which they made 1000.

The biggest thrill for me is still seeing my cels in the
acutal anime and knowing I can look at that exact "piece"
of the show and time I want. But I think there is even
more to it than that. One thing that sort of makes cels
cool is that even though everyone knows that they are
collectible now, they weren't intended that way and if it
weren't for computers they would still be making them even
if there weren't any collectors.

A non-production cel, even if one of a kind, is just made
to sell. It is made strictly for profit and other that
serves no purpose. It's not like ownign a piece of
history, which is sort of like how I feel about a cel.

People will watch these shows for years to come, and every
time anyone, anywhere, sees a show I collect, they will watch something I own, if you know what I mean. I think
that's really incredible.

I would stil prefer genga and even douga to any type of
repro cel, but that is just me and I am sure that everyone
feels differently about this. To be really honest, I think
that repro cels are pretty pathetic. It takes the thrill
out of it because all repros are amazingly good shots. You
wouldn't make a repro of a back of someone or with eyes
closed, so it take the challenge out of buying cels. Also,
you don't have any idea what's out there. You can't have
a wishlist of specfic scenes/outfits/etc, because they may
not have made any like that - it's hard to know.

It would just bore me. I wouldn't buy the most amazing
repro of my favorite character even if it was worth $1000
and someone was offering to me for $1. Unless I knew someone else I could sell it to...

Just one opinion...
