[ADMIN] Rules (Wed Apr 5 10:11:33 2000 )

Üh, thanks guys for your support but that wasn't
realy the goal : I am merely pointing out the rules
to post on this forum. Which are mostly the same as
on any serious newsgroup/mailing-list.

Also, as on any newsgroup/mailing-list, there is always
people believing that rules only apply to others and,
for whatever reason, don't apply to them. You shouldn't
waste your time answering those person : It's the job
of the admin/moderator. (Me on this forum). Usualy,
the admin will remind the person nicely once. Will
warn him/her a couple of time and will end-up taking
needed actions if the person can't still understand
what is the proper behaviour to have.

Why rules ? Because without, it very quickly degenerate
and become total chaos. Rules are here so that the
system my operate smoothly (which may be not posting
binaries on a mailing-list because the traffic generated
is too bid) and so that the list/forum/newsgroup is used
for the purpose it was created for. And so remain
interesting to users.

Oh, sure, we all are dying to know if Ryoko use Loreal
to fix her hairs, what's the color of Sailor Venus
under-wear and where to class super-sayan San Gogou
version 3.1b powers on the GURP universal exponential
game scale. (And what would happen in a battle between
an Enterprise security team, who always get killed soon
after appearing, and a squad of Imperial Stormtrooper,
who can't hit the broad side of a planet)

But let face it, that's not the right place
to discuss those highly important questions.

So what are the rules ? Most of them are AN INTERNET
STANDARD AS DEFINED BY RFC 1855.

The topic of this forum is : animation cels.
Only messages related to this topic are accepted.

Concerning "advertising", I already said many time that
people/dealers are welcome to post _1_ mail to announce
an update. (and/or eventualy 1 mail to let people know
when they will update. But then, don't post another to
say that the updated is delayed !).

For auctions, _1_ mail to announce your auction and
_1_ mail to remind people that it's going to end in
the near future is the maximum tolerated. (And please,
use your head : it's useless to remind people that your
auction will end in 1 hour : it will be far too late for
most people).

This is not a "legal" text. It's the "spirit" of those
rules that count. So please, don't try playing fools :
I won't accept that you update every few hours, adding
1 or 2 cels at a time, and post an advertising for
each of those "so-called" update.

Concerning "anonymous" posting : It's _tolerated_
because there isn't real way to prevent it and because
it _may_ be justified in some case.
But, IMHO, flaming, insulting, criticizing someone while
hiding behind anonymity is pretty coward. Oh, I know,
you all have good reasons to do it. But the person you
criticize is entitled the right to answer your attack.

Also don't be surprise if in the mind of people, you
are associated with all others "anonymous" messages.
It's how it happen : people think of a "Mr. Anonymous"
and assign to that pseudo-person all anonymous messages.
Before even reading your mail, people will be prejudicied
for/against you by other anonymous mails they read.

For reference, here is one of the many places where you
can find the RFC 1855 Netiquette Guidelines :
http://www.dtcc.edu/cs/rfc1855.html

Cheers,
Yann Stettler
