This may sound strange, but I think a very good resource 
for this essay would be the sony playstation game, 
Lunar Silver Star Story complete.  The game comes 
with a special disc about "The making of..."
In it they show a lot of the animation being done
on computers and show sketches, etc.
They show most of the process involved in the animation
of various sequences.
You can rent the game from your local video store (and 
a playstation if you don't know anyone who has one). 
 This would give you a credible source and I think explain 
a lot....
