Production cel is a type of merchandise that is hard to
appraise because cel is one of a kind item, unlike
trading card or toy. Reproduction and special-made cel
is a different story though. Moreover, there're just way
too many anime cels on the market unlike American animation
cels. Different series, characters, poses, backgrounds,
conditions, availability are all accounted into the
values of anime cels. For example, a tiny San cel from
Princess Mononoke can cost you over a thousand buck easily.
Why? Because Princess Mononoke cels are hard to find, and
the movie is highly popular in Japan. On the other hand,
you can use a thousand buck to buy a decent sized and
better looking Kiki cel from Kiki's Delivery, mainly because
there're more Kiki cels available in the market.
