I found the same thing to be true.  The first cel I 
bought was $25, and it seemed like a lot to me, (don't
laugh) but it was a gift for someone so I got it.  About
six months later I up and bought *my* first cel and
spent $100 on it.  It took me forever but once I got it
I became addicted.  I recently realized how much I've been 
spending on cels and noticed that my original goal of
"1 nice cel of each character I like" was not being 
realized even though I had more cels than characters...
I'm trying to curb the habit now, but there are still
so many times when I get excited at an update or see 
something really nice...It's hard to remember you 
have 6 cels of character X already when you see just
one more really great one...Plus the mentality of
"Gotta get it now or it'll be gone!" can be misleading-
as some people have said, it takes a lot of cels to make
up a series.  So I'm learning to wait and recognize a 
truly good deal.  But the updates can make it hard because
no time to think things over.  
Cel collecting- more fun that crack, and more addictive! ;)
