I used to complain that there wasn't enough 
merchandise avaliable for Escaflowne -- after you 
get the model kits, pencil boards, wall hangers, 
and assorted art books, that was it. Now, I wish 
it was less popular so that the cels would be 
cheaper. :) 

Anyway, I'm sort of interested in how the cel 
market for Escaflowne will do after the show hits 
the television market. The prices of Gundam cels 
hit the roof, but this was the first time the 
series was introduced to a mainstream public 
through video, DVD, and television. I know some 
people who are into anime, but only became fans 
of the series after they started watching it on 
TV. Series like Tenchi Muyo and Escaflowne were 
avaliable on video before their television runs, 
and already have huge fan bases. I'm betting that 
the prices will go up, but I doubt that either 
series will reach the absolutely insane -- or 
profitable -- increases that Gundam cels did. A 
good bet is to get a couple of decently priced 
cels now though. I have seen a few out there, so 
don't give up hope and good luck on your search.
