Did I told you about Cartoonist ? (Tue Jul 4 01:46:59 2000 )

Between my last trip to Japan and all the work I had
to do those last couple of weeks (including a new
look for Animanga that I should soon upload on the
server :), I totaly forgot to speak about the last
Cartoonist convention in France.

With a couple of friends, we arrived in Nice at
around 10pm after an usual hour of delay. Can't
complain : Geneve to Nice by airplan for less
than $50 is pretty cheap... except that as it was
Easter, the ticket was 3 times the usual price.
The time to get a car and here we go... in the wrong
direction (quickly corrected) but with all that we
missed the highway entry. Oh, well, so we take the
next one... which was closed. But we did received
a damn nice map, all in color, with a kind of maze
draw on it : how to reach the next entrance...
(have to remember to post a copy of the map if I
can find it back).

Anyway, we arrive a little after midnight in Toulon.
(there must be a rule in Europa that say that an anime
convention can't be anywhere near an international
airport). It was nice from the hotel to put some
cookies in the rooms : as everything was closed it
had to do the job until the morning.

The convention started the next morning. Between
selling cels and talking to people, I didn't saw
much of it. (my friends suddenly vanished after a
couple of hours...). But there was a lot of people :
Over 15000 for the 3 days.
I still managed to take a few pictures before the
cosplay : will post some as soon as I have the scans.

The main guest of the even was Mr. Kawamoto : Golden
Boy, Cowboy Bebop, Orguss 02... Among the other guests
were several japanese mangaka and some french authors:
Mr. Borg (Ulysse 31), Mr. Deyries (Mysterious City of Gold).

There was a pretty nice storm at that time and the
airport was closed during the weekend... but I didn't
saw much of it either anyway... :)

Will continue in a few days (going to Paris tomorrow...:)
with the picture...

Speaking of Mr. Kawamoto : that's the only drawing
of Orguss that he made... :)

Cheers,
Yann S.
