A Cel Forum RETROSPECTIVE...YANN please read! (Wed Dec 6 20:45:32 2000 )

I’m really amazed at how much I’ve grown
from novice to serious anime collector. This
forum is like my other “family” of friends whom
I could share my favorite hobby, ANIME cel
collecting. I wonder how often many of you
(other) cel collectors log on to this forum.
Once a week? Once a day? Several times a
day???!!! No, I’m not trying to put this forum
down. In fact, I have actually benefited greatly
by this forum. It has made me a more
knowledgeable person. I have gained much
insight about Japanimation I would have never
known otherwise.

I know I don’t post to this forum too often, I’d
rather sit quietly in the background just
“listening” to others talk-post. This is not
because I’m not sociable, but I believe the
notion that if I cannot add to this forum, I won’t
say anything.

By now, I pretty much know who the cel forum
“regulars” are (you know who you are out
there!), those who frequent occassionally and
those who are the once-in-a-blue mooners.
Even though we’ve never met, I somehow can
perceive some personality traits by the style of
each person’s writing. There are those who
are very strong willed, some testy, some
helpful, others frank. All very interesting
people!

There are (in the forum) the fierce arguments
(usually caused by some rude remark or by
some naive postings-usually by anonymous
posters). Certain subjects causes strong
emotions to emerge (ebay scammers or
unscrupulous dealers). I really love it when
people post their newly updated cel galleries
or when they just received their dream cel.
Sharing is what this forum is all about. Then
there’s the venerable “show-me-your-cel”
requests...entertaining at the very least.

I have admitted to being a cel addict. Parents
and friends may not think much of this hobby,
especially when they find out how much you’ve
spent on some pieces of paint and plastic. It’s
hard to explain to someone that you’re into
these “big-eyed cartoon characters?” What I
am thankful for is this small community of
anime cel collectors who has given me some
sense of belonging. I thank Yann for this
forum...It has enlightened me immensely.

Now that the new year is right around the
corner, my New Years resolution is to...well...
to quit collecting? Not a chance! How about
not spend so much? Naw, that was last
year’s. Okay, I’ll settle for... dieting ...that’s it!

Happy upcoming Holidays and a good New
Year to you all!
