Cel Theory: Why is it so addictive?... (Wed Nov 1 13:43:07 2000 )

Cel collecting has to be one of the most addictive
hobbies out there but have you ever asked your
self why? My opinion on the matter is that cel
collecting is a hobby that has fast rewards and
can almost never upset the collector. You buy a
cel, you get it, you have it forever and if you
get sick of it... you sell it. There is almost no
drawback to this hobby. Its not like bonsai where
it takes years to grow a tree that may die. It is
better than stamp collecting because a cel is, and
this may not seem logical but think about it, much
bigger than a stamp. Also they look nice. Many
things one might collect are not visually
rewarding. Yet another reason, though many deny
it, is showing off your brand new cel. No matter
what you say. It gives you some satisfaction to
hear someone say "that's a mighty fine cel." This
has two sides though. Some people do not
experience this other side simply because they
don't have good enough cels but it IS possible to
get tired of offers on your cels especially when
you do not want to sell them. Yet ANOTHER reason
why this hobby is so rewarding is because it gives
you a chance to own an actual piece of your
favorite anime. It is also the fun of the
chase. Waking up at insane hours to get the
Taro update or having Keep-Track running on
your laptop at all times. Those are the main
reasons that this is such an addictive hobby. I
hope to have other installments of "Cel Theory" in
the future. Thank You for your time.
