CEL CARE HELP? (Sat Sep 8 01:11:30 2001 )
ura [View profile ]

{Sorry, posted this somewhere else by mistake but
meant to post it as a new message.}

Since I really wanted to try to frame some
autographed cels over the weekend, please forgive
me for re-posting these questions:

[1] Is there a way to safely clean off or remove
permanent ink from acetate (or more specifically,
duralar, the acetate substitute)? Permanent
black marker and permanent gold marker in
question, particularly?

[2] How does one usually go about cleaning
dirt/dust off of cels? (if you know an
information link, that'll suffice)

After calling a few art stores about the first
question, I have be suggested the options (which
you may or may not have experience with):

(1) Eradicator markers: $1-2 each; apparently
they can remove Staedtler and maybe Sharpee
permanent inks.

(2) Nulamar correction pens: $1.50 each;
apparently does the same thing as above, but I'm
not sure

(3) nail polish remover: although I was warned
that this might affect the acetate somehow

If you are experienced with these solutions or
know even better methods to clean permanent ink
smudges off of acetate, please let me know.

THANKS!!!

OH, AND IF YOU'RE BORED/CURIOUS, THIS IS MY STORY
(previously posted):

To my horror, I discovered that 2 autographs on 2
cels (1 autograph per cel) were slightly smudged
in the course of transporting my hoarde home from
AX (I've been too busy to check up on them until
now).

Would any of you cel experts or artists know how
best to clean up the smudges so that I can
restore each autograph's original lines? The
smudging is not major, but I'm planning to frame
these babies really soon and I want to make the
presentation as well as possible.

The first autograph was written with permanent
black ink while the second was written in that
gold ink, if that helps in any way.

Thanks ahead of time!
