I use VistaScan & Photoshop on a UMAX scanner, 
and my sketches come out the same way.. 
Everything I do seems to scan a bit dark, so I 
generally do a Variations->Lighten once or twice 
to make the colours match up to the original. 
Maybe it's a problem inherent to the 
scanner/software?
