i'm definitely not about to pay for a page, while 
i can find a free host that meets all my needs.  
my site's on www.f2s.com.  they 
don't offer as much space as other hosts, but 
they DO offer just about everything else.  my 
site runs off a MySQL database, and it's 
difficult to find a free server that supports 
it!  

as for domain names, i've never found a better 
bargain than www.gandi.net.  
they're based in France, so the fees are in 
Euros.  a year of hosting is 12 Euros, or about 
$10.50 with the current exchange.  they do URL 
and mail forwarding, and give the owner total 
control over the domain.  (as in, they have one 
of the best terms of service in the business)
