Maturity is what matters, not necessarily age... (text) (Sun Feb 3 19:18:08 2002 )

In this hobby, as with any other one, there are
some collectors who seem "young" -- which is to
say, we find them unreliable, manipulative, or
socially inept. And certainly, no one really
wants to deal with a person like this more than
once.

But "young," in this context, is just a common
misnomer. This isn't really related to age. ^_^
I'm sure everyone here could name people that they
know in real life who, despite their venerable
years, seem flaky, overly defensive, or quick to
become rude. The same is certainly true in cel
collecting. "Immature" would be the more precise
word for these individuals. Yes, many of them are
young, simply because maturity often comes with
age. But certainly not all.

On the flip side, I'll mention one of the members
(albeit usually a lurking one) of this forum,
Lighthawk. While I know that he's, shall we say,
"well under the legal drinking age," he's easily
one of the most reliable and well-spoken
collectors I've met. As I've said before to the
Celtyrant, if all teenagers were like him, I'd
have had a dozen kids of my own.

I suppose my rambling here has a one-line moral:
"Judge each person individually, rather than
pigeonholing them for a factor as random as age."

And since this IS a cel forum, I'm hereby
justifying this message by posting a shot of Clef,
Rayearth's oldest little boy. *grin*
