in the first cel, the table and resturaunt are 
one cut-out BG layer, and the cityscape is a 
seperate layer behind it.  When the anime was 
filmed however, I guess they decided to not use 
the cityscape, and filled in the windows with 
more cutouts!

The second cel takes place in an elevator... the 
white area behind the 2 figures is cutout, 
allowing for different backgrounds to pass behind 
the setup and simulating motion!  ^_^
