Yes, there are places where the artwork is 
mistreated. Those are usually the places that are 
part of a chain of shops. "Frames Unlimited" is 
around my house... as well as Micheal's 
Framing...both i wouldn't recommend to an enemy. 
It's the small time, family-run shops that 
succeed in framing. And chances are - if you go 
to one of the little shops - every employee is an 
artist (like myself). 

I work at an art store with a framing department. 
Standard framing is archival framing. If the 
person wants their poster "glued to a board", 
they are advised of the circumstances. Usually 
that is an option with posters because if they 
are not dry-mounted - then they wrinkle from 
humidity. A good frame store would tell you this -
 and also all the other options.
