An idle inquiry about FAN CELS (Fri May 10 04:12:37 2002 )

Ok, just wanted to react to the new tutorial,
Requiem, very nice! And the Spidey cel above is
outstanding.

So... I'm poised to do my first fan cel. I have
what I consider a darn nice freehand drawing of
Inu Yasha (done before I looked at the original
tutorial and figured out how to capture a screen
image, duh...)

I run to hobby lobby and find a pigment pen to go
with my very nice acetate (thanks Drac) and go
home. Follow directions, shake pen, release
pressure, start drawing and... it's WHITE.

-- as an aside, an artist acquaintance asked me
what was wrong with white when I told her this
story :). When I explained that the whole point
of getting the archival quality pigment was to
avoid BLACK-line fading she said "So why not do
it in white? Who says you can't be original?"

I was tempted to ditch the acetate, but you know,
up against a piece of black paper the thing looks
fantastic. So my question is: (deep breath, yes
I am capable of forming concise English sentences
on occasion, but this isn't one)

Has anyone out there ever experimented with doing
a cel with a WHITE outline?? If you have, would
you share the results? I'm gonna go ahead and
give it a shot anyway to see what happens, but
I'm curious :)

(or stupid... stranger things have happened)
