There is nothing wrong with collecting cels for the sake of the image itself. In fact, MOST of the cels I've collected so far were from shows I haven't had the chance to see yet. I collect out of an appreciation for the art and aesthetic, and not necessarily because I'm a fan of a particular show or character; which would be an added desire to collect a specific cel.
I just can't agree that only "fans" deserve good cel's of a series. It's just a natural envious instinct of collectors to own for themselves the things they so covet.
I've paid > $1000 for a beautiful cel of a main character from a popular show I didn't even see yet (eventually I did). Does anyone think I don't deserve it?
