Is there really such a thing as a "mint" cel?! (Sat Aug 22 08:50:39 1998 )
Metaphor
Hmmm...
metaphor@home.com

I've been seeing a few cels lately described as being in
"mint condition". I've always thought of cel descriptions
in the ranges of "excellent" to "poor", but never mint. Since
a cel is painted by hand and then used in the production of
the animated feature, can one really call it "mint"? In my
opinion; not. Since first of all a cel is painted by hand and
not made by machine, there are imperfections which automatically
don't make it mint. Since it's used and possibly "abused"
somewhat during production, it can't really be called "mint"
either, can it? Many of my cels are key cels and in excellent
condition with hardly a flaw, but I would never classify a
cel as being in "mint" condition.
Any opinions?
