You did not say anything wrong, Shaun.  It might just have
been the way you worded it that stuck in some peoples' craw.
The way the public is these days is just too sensitive.  
Everyone is so afraid that someone might find out something
about them.  People fear being stalked or harrassed and no
one trusts anyone anymore.  Sure I don't know you from Adam, 
but if you are searching for something and I know where it is
I will definately try to help you obtain it, assuming that it
is within reach.  I'm not saying that I'll give you another
person's address, but I might try to contact that person
and tell them of your plight.
People need to lighten up and stop throwing out (or up) all 
that legal mumbo jumbo about privacy.  Most people have the
common sense to know about personal safety and don't need to
hear about some law.
By the way, I think this mostly applys to America as I don't
think that people in other countries are as self-centered 
or crazy as my fellow countrymen have become...
