Re: Peeling off rice paper (Fri May 12 19:06:27 2000 )

I think they were referring to the pencil, which is normally
sold together with the cel; I will personally be keeping my
pencils separate, but I'll still keep acid-free buffered
tissue to back the cels to prevent them from sticking to
the Mylar D bags I'll be using.

If it's just a sheet of another paper, e.g. rice paper, then
if it's stuck, I think trying to remove it is still better.
After all, once it's stuck, over time the WHOLE THING will
become stuck, and that would be just messy.

For some reason my feeling is that the cel paint is more
likely to stick to plastic than paper. I don't know why,
maybe I read that somewhere. *Can anyone verify this?*
Besides, I'd rather the cel stick to an expendable piece
of paper than to the inside of a cel bag or some other
piece of plastic. I think cels are just very friendly and
will eventually stick to anything given the correct environment
(especially humidity).

The two sites I'd visit for general cel care information
is http://www.animationartcollecting.com/
(it does NOT deal specifically with anime cels, but cel
art is cel art, unless we get into paints - and she gives
good advice on WHY *NOT* TO BUY A CEL. ^_^) and
http://www.animanga.com/kallred/Care&Handling.html

There also other cel care sites, most notably Nichibei
and a couple others,
http://members.aol.com/rukesriese/cels/clean.htm
http://www.ncn.com/~excel/Page-CollectorsWisdom3.html
http://orangeroad.org/MISC/EdN.html
(Ed writes about separating cels from their pencils)

.. Tons of other sites, I'm sure. Usually I don't see sites
that agree completely with each other on proper cel care
and storage, which can be a pain. Many individual sites
won't tell you the difference between archival and normal
materials for cels, either, but I think most sites do agree
that pencils should be kept separately - I don't know if
this applies to extra backing paper.

[Unfortunately, two of my cels are stuck to their pencils,
and they're the cels I DON'T want to ruin. ;_;]

Well, THAT was a lot of help ! @_#

:P
