Otakon is fast on its way to becoming the east coast
version of AX.  All the hotels near the convention center
have already sold out, so it's going to be packed this year
(whether that's good or bad is up to you).  It's not
as big as AX, but it is a bigger show than Anime Central
(which is in Chicago).
