Re: Rare cels - series and studio releases (Fri Jun 2 17:14:09 2000 )

Actually, in some cases I really wouldn't be surprised that
only half a dozen cels exist in the public domain. I know
of two series in particular where I've only seen one or two
cels on the internet EVER. And yes, I'm good at finding things
on the 'net. >_^ Of course, this can also mean that these
rare cels exist only in JAPAN. >_<

I hope you're not assuming that anime series' studios regularly
release their cels to the public - which is NOT TRUE (see
the link I posted on the Evangelion production cel thread).

Production cels that are particularly rare (e.g. Dragon
Half, Please Save My Earth) were undoubtedly stolen from
the studio, or perhaps from the personal allowance of studio
employees, or worse yet, counterfeit. Still others are
probably stolen or from the employee network as well (e.g.
Eva, Kenshin I believe has not had released cels, but there
seems to be quite a few of them floating around).

It's also possible, I suppose, that older series do not
have many cels available simply because studios at that time
did not feel cels were valuable commodities (and hence many
were destroyed or dipped and re-used). Dunno how old Yoma is.
Dunno when studios started to realize cels were profitable,
either.

BECAUSE some production cels are exceedingly rare, expect
to pay BIG premiums for them. The PSME cels I've seen were
well over $500. @_@x oro! ;_;

Does anyone know of other series where cels are KNOWN to
NOT be released to the public? A list would be nice....
