Well, I don't know of a program. I make my
thumbnails using a photoshop-type program that
came with my ancient hand-scanner (you know, the
kind you have to add a card to your computer to
use). Actually, I've been using the same program
since way back when I had my 486. Even though my
new scanners came with Adobe Photodeluxe, I like
this old program better, even though it doesn't
let me use long filenames (which I try not to do
anyway for the sake of simplicity).
But the main reason that I'm writing this message
is to mention one thing that I've noticed. I
looked at a couple of galleries today, and the
thumbnails took FOREVER to load. So I looked at
the source code, and sure enough, the people who
designed the pages hadn't bothered to create
thumbnails - they just used the WIDTH and HEIGHT
options to change the size of the pictures. Let
me tell you guys something - that only changes
the way the image LOOKS on the screen, it doesn't
change the size of the file. And so it defeats
the main purpose of having thumbnails, which is
to create a fast-loading page from which you can
choose which of the large files you want to
download. I didn't bother to wait for the pages
I was looking at to finish loading - I don't have
that kind of patience. So please, when you
design a gallery, take that into consideration
and actually make thumbnail pictures. It takes a
little extra time on your part, but the people
viewing your page will appreciate it.
