actually no. scanning something doesn't give you 
rights to it. I don't know who started this nasty 
rumour in the first place, but it's not true.

Just becuase someone scans a peice of my artwork 
does not make that SCAN of _MY_ art their 
intellectual property.

Likewise, a while back Clamp asked people not to 
post SCANS of their original character artwork on 
websites.  now why would they do that, if they 
didnt have the right to, hrrrmm...?

People would like to think that scanning (and 
thus doing WORK to scan them) means that they 
have more right to an image file than someone who 
steals the file from their site... but in strict 
copyright law, they aren't any different.

Not to say that I don't scan things and post them 
on the web of other people's art. I'm just saying 
that under a court of law, I'm pretty darn sure 
(please correct me if I'm wrong!!!) that scanning 
something doesn't make that file YOURS
