I've traded with somebody who sells to
MikaNoNamida on occasion, so I've heard the whole
story from them. And she's NOT an antiquated
pickle heiress. Sheesh, people!!

Of course, I don't know how much of this I really
should be talking about in a public forum, since
it amounts to little more than gossip, but I'll
justify it as setting the record straight, AND
as answering the original poster's question.

From what I hear, MNN is a 20-something from
southern California. Double-majored in computer
engineering and Japanese, studied in Japan, fell
madly in love with a guy she met in the tech
district at Akihabara, decided to settle down over
there. Even started applying for dual
citizenship, although god knows the taxes would
have been ruinous... I can't imagine why anyone
would actually want to do that to themselves,
despite how cool it sounds on paper.

Anyway, I've heard that her fiance' was a software
developer for one of the CG systems used to
colorize animation. You know how a lot of those
guys are -- kind of living and breathing their
work -- so he was pretty much anime-obsessed 24/7.
*grin* I've also heard, though, that he was just
a major otaku who dabbled in computer animation
for fun -- not sure which to believe. What I do
know for sure, though, is that he was killed in a
car accident about two months before the wedding.
:(

I guess she couldn't stand to stay in Japan after
that. I can't blame her, really -- I've heard
that his family had resented her from the start,
so there really wasn't much left for her there.
She moved home to California, and from what I
hear, actually made a bit of money on the whole
dot-com thing before it went to hell. These days,
she's doing contract work for CG companies, and
buying cels from the shows that she used to watch
with her beau... I guess they make her feel better
in an odd sort of way. :(

I do feel bad for her, but I also wish one of
those shows hadn't been Slayers, if you know what
I mean.

Anyway, that's the scoop.

Pickle heiress, indeed. :P
