When banking internationally, sometimes there's a delay in the processing.
Though a month is kind of extreme, I doubt any "funny business" occured.
My suggestion is that whenever you use your debit card, you
keep a record of the transaction, this way there won't be any
surprises later. But since there isn't a receipt right away like with an
ATM card, you'll have to do this manually.
