Someone sell something at a fixed price. But just
because there is several people wanting the item,
that person decided to cancel the orders and run
instead an auction...
Sorry, I don't see how it's fair for anybody. And
that has nothing to do with the method of selling
but with changing the rules  when we see
that we could gain more money than what we first
wanted to sell the item for.

When I order a cel, I generaly buy at the same time
some other cels that interest me less just to
get a big enough order. I wouldn't have bought
those other cels alone. If I end-up getting only
those other cels because of a lottery, the seller should
be ready to accept if I simply cancel the whole order.

Don't count on me. If I had to choose another method
than "first come" it would be "friends got the
cels first".
