No, it is not. I totally agree with everything you are saying here.
And I am not a good person to debate this with. I hate to see the
prices rise, mostly because it will push me out of my new hobby!
And for the simple reason that I still am not jaded about this subject.
I love my cels! I am totally enchanted with them as art.
I don't want to think that cels will only be for the elite,
like the Disney cels are....

How do you dealers decide if you want to sell for top dollar and cash in or sell
for reasonable prices? (when not on auction) Well,
in my experience, you go for a reasonable price if you want to
continue to be successful long term, and not just cash in.
Which is why I am comparing cels to Beanie Babies today.
The beanies I sell in our store are $6 each. We pay $2.50. On
ebay the same beanies sell for up to $250! What does someone with
ethics do? What we do is sell almost all of our beanies for $6.00
even if the buyer goes and re-sells for $100, which they DO. We don't want
to have our reputation ruined by a fad. So, once in a while, to feel like
we are not total idiots, we sell a beanie on ebay and make an obscene profit!
But by and large, we give our customers the break they deserve because they
ARE our customers. :-)

This is the question we ask ourselves every day! We could be seriously rich on
beanies alone! As it is, we are ethical and poor! And the answer has
to be that it is what makes us sleep well at night! :-)
