A few observations on ebay auction--a bidder's perspective (Thu Apr 6 07:15:52 2000 )

I've read with great interest people's views on buying
cels through ebay, and I just wanna share my views.

First, I am a sniper. I'll admit that. To me, it's
the equivalent of having a duel with another person
in a fighting game at the arcane, where the winner gets
the cel. There's a rush of adrenaline I get when I
emerge victorious, pump my fist in the air, and yell,
"YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

However, I also bid reasonably. As Yann keeps pointing
out, if your maximum bid is low to begin with, you should
have placed a higher maximum to avoid being outbid. And
if someone outbids you, remember that there's probably
a better cel available sooner or later. So if I see that
the last bid is already overpriced, I will move on and
wait for the next time.

Finally, ebay auctions also provide an opportunity to get
a good cel at a bargain price.

These principles definitely played themselves out in
the two tenchi OVA cel auctions by ringo500 that ended
recently. In one auction, sappy was the first bidder,
and was the winning bidder despite four additional bids.
She placed a high maximum bid, and no one outbid her.
At $39 plus shipping, she definitely got a bargain, IMO.

In the other auction, the final bid was made 1/2 an hour
before the auction ended. Certainly that was more than
enough time for someone else to place a higher bid.
However, the fact that no one else did so may suggest
something about the final bid.

Just my own two cents. =)

Antony
