While fundamentally I agree with you -- it's cruddy when
I see a cel I want slapped up on ebay for profit
only, I have to take some issues with this discussion.

First, money is definitely part of cel collecting. To ignore
this is ludicrous. After all aren't most of the discussions
here revolve around "Is this a fair price?" "What do you
think it's worth?" Of course, to you and me, certain cels
have a sentimental value beyond money but the fact remains,
a price is put upon the items.

As for the example about Bruce Springsteen tickets, is it
fair that AMEX card holders get a first crack at buying
tickets? What about those people who know people at the
ticket buying office? Is this fair to the teenager?

One could argue (and I believe some have) that an auction
is fairer than first come first serve because everybody has
a crack at getting that cel. The final price is determined
by the BUYERS not the sellers. If no one wanted that cel,
then the seller would be left with it. Dealers could do
this if they wanted, but they often don't (thankfully! --
but this _artificially_ lowers the market price).

Sorry about the rant. Feeling cranky after eating too much
leftover Halloween candy.

Wendy
