Sticky tape and rubbing alcohol... (Thu Jun 22 22:12:49 2000 )

Dear Oion,

Yeah, Drac's experience with using rubbing alcohol to remove
sticky tape residue sums up my experiences too very neatly!
I always found if VERY difficult to use rubbing alcohol to
remove sticky tape residue because it took several passes
to completely dissolve away the sticky gluey residue, and
sometimes, it still didn't completely remove it well =P.
That's why I was so elated when I discovered my own method
of removing residue using sticky tape itself to remove it.
Not only was all the glops and streaks of glue removed very
cleanly despite my fingernail gluey streaks left behind, but
it is a "dry" and no-chemicals-involved method to remove
sticky stuff from glossy surfaces (such as plastic, metals,
wood, glossy book covers, etc.). I collect a lot of used
books as well, so it's VERY handy to use when you DON'T or
CAN'T use wet stuff to remove old stickers (the stickers on
the inside of the book pages however, I have to leave alone
because this method will obviously tear the page surface if
the pages aren't coated/glossy!). I found I could even use
this method to remove stickers from some glossy cardboard
surfaces such as the ones you find for that those collector
toys come in where again, you don't want to get the surface
wet. That's why I LOVE this method so much 8)! You can use
it ALMOST anywhere you DON'T want to get wet or have
chemicals involved (especially wood and glossy paper
surfaces!)! It even works well with surfaces that you can
get wet (glass and crystal)! It normally takes a lot of
soaking and scrubbing to remove the sticky stuff from these
surfaces too using either water or rubbing alcohol, but if
you use this method, it will take you a fraction of the
time! 8)

Man, I sound like an infomercial! 8( Anyway, try it, and
you'll love it too!

Sincerely,

Sonia

P.S. I DO NOT CLAIM THAT I INVENTED THIS METHOD AT ALL!! =(
I'm sure someone else has thought of this before! I'm just
a big advocate of it though! =)
