Re: Theories on cel collecting (Sat Mar 9 21:12:55 2002 )

I enjoy collecting a um... single digit number of
series fairly seriously (at least I think it's still
single number ^^;) and then getting a handful of
cels from other series/shows I really loved. I'm a
big fan of the misc but I can't afford to collect too
too broadly.

When I started out, I was collecting anyseries I
found vaguely amusing for my misc handfuls. I
was also settling a bit for shots that weren't
perfect for me but were of the right character.
Again, due partially to taste and partially do not
being able to afford that, I decided to only go for
shots that were 'just right' for me. I'm willing to
wait for that, in most cases, something comes
around eventually. Also, I decided to raise the
bar on which series I would even collect. I have
some sort of internal by-feel
cost-to-'love-of-series' function to determine that.
When I made that change, I also dropped a few
series and sold off some cels. The thing about
cels already in my collection though, is there's
always something unique and loveable about it,
so it's very hard.

There are also certain series I declare myself
'done' on. This means that I have all the cels I
want and don't want any more from it. It's nice to
be 'done.' Additionally there are some series I
consider 'done with a few exceptions.' Because
it's unlikely the exceptions will show up or show
up at a price I want to pay for them, I can sort of
consider myself done with the series. I'll still
keep my eye out and buy that perfect wish cel if
it pops up, but otherwise I'm pretty much just
window shopping when I look.
