Not only is there AIC, but there's also the ultra anal(about releasing cels)
Production IG. From what I saw, Gainax recycled some TV footage and
the amount of new animation didn't seem like enough to warrant
asking for help from outside studios. I suppose they went to IG
for the computer graphics and effects, seeing how PIG is quite
good at it from Ghost in the Shell.
Even though Japan's economy is in crisis and living costs are
high(to a forigner, if you work in Japan and enjoy the living
wage, then it's not a problem!) I've always admired the fact
that they can produce great stuff, and pay their workers enough
to live well and buy their own work(if they chose to.)
IMO, the crappiest of my cel collection has more artistic
merit than say, a Simpsons or Ren and Stimpy cel.
