ROFLMAO, to use an annoying internet phrase. I
particularly liked your knew handle...sarcasm is such a
beautiful thing!

I only found this site a while ago, and I am a definite
newbie - to use another annoying term. However, today I
have noticed a MAJOR case of people spraining their
shoulders when they pat themselves on the back for knowing
Japanese. Wow, I am so impressed. (sarcasm) I happen to
know an obscure bantu language - does that mean I get to
tell people how they can discuss africa?? Nope - it just
means that I had the opportunity to learn a new language.
People do it all the time, and it doesn't make them any better than someone mono-lingual.

Personally, I've been pretty proud of how I've been able to
pick up some words from the anime I watch (I always try to
watch subs, because the dubs are tooooo americanized)(and
btw, I've never heard the phrase kawaii used in anime -
I've seen it on sites, and wondered what the hell it meant.
now I know, more than I wanted to!) What, exactly, is wrong
with someone wanting to practice and improve on new language
skills? If everyone who was "semi-fluent" was this rude to
those who aren't even semi, no one would ever learn!! And
this is not just in response to this thread - I've noticed a
little romanji-fluent snobbery in other posts.

Here's an idea - if you know more of something than I do,
and I use something wrong, please let me know about it, and
maybe even explain a bit. I'll do the same for you.

Az, stepping off her soapbox now.
