A thread long enough to hogtie a 'mech (Sun Jan 14 21:07:10 2001 )

Hi, everyone!

Well, after reading through all the advice and
comments in this thread, it seems that my best
course of action (or auction, as the case may be
;), is as follows:

1) Put prices on the cels instead of saying "make
offer". Sounds like a plan, since in retrospect,
I guess I usually give up on other peoples' sites
when I see the same thing. *sheepish grin*

2) Don't overcharge. Okay, I wouldn't be able to
live with myself if I did anyway. The question
here seems to be how much is too much. Ryochan, I
would be very grateful for your help in pricing
Tenchi cels. I'll also take that suggestion about
looking for similar cels on various dealer sites,
in particular the ones I myself purchase from and
respect for offering reasonable prices.

3) Don't buy just to resell. Well, this has not
yet been an issue, as I buy because I love certain
shows or certain characters and want to add them
to my personal collection. However, I'll admit
that this discussion has gotten me to thinking
about online cel dealers, and that it might be fun
to try my own luck at the trade one of these days.
Heck, I've got a business license... who knows,
if I really enjoy buying and selling cels, I might
give it a try someday.

Or maybe not... since I love cels so much, I might
end up with three filing cabinets full of
so-called "inventory", a giant whack of debt, and
bear traps around my house to keep anyone from
getting in to purchase anything. *big grin* I
guess I'm just thinking that most dealers probably
start out as collectors. I can understand...
personally, I adore videogames, which is why I
went into writing dialogue for a game company and,
eventually, working as a game magazine editor and
reviewer. If you can do for "work" what you love
to do for fun, life is a truly wonderful place.

Thanks to everyone for your input and advice!
It's always helpful to hear from the folks who've
been doing this longer than I have... while my
hubby and I have been buying a few cels here and
there since the early '80's, we've only recently
moved from American to anime cels, and even more
recently started building a serious collection.

I'm off to scarf some Chinese takeout and watch
some videos... thanks again, and have a great
Sunday night,
    - CindyV
