Re: How do you justify paying (Thu Mar 15 17:46:30 2001 )

My philosophy has changed a bit since I started
collecting. I used to look at the higher priced
cels and say, "Wow, that's beautiful," and
happily move on. But my tastes have changed, and
the cels I love are usually pretty pricey. (Not
always mind you, one of the least expensive cels
I own was on my wishlist and is the one I have
gotten the most offers on....)So I make
sacrafices. I don't head out to the clubs every
Friday/Saturday anymore(cut back to every OTHER
weekend ~_^),I don't eat out like I used to, I
don't spend much on clothes (but never have) I'll
rent the $1 movie at the grocery store, and for
the first time in my life...I use coupons.
Omigod....coupons...I AM my mother....

When I go to purchase a cel, the resale value
isn't something I usually consider. But I will
not buy a cel that I feel is overpriced. Someone
on this forum once talked about how paying too
much for a cel, regardless of your financial
wellbeing, deters from your enjoyment of the
artwork. I wholeheartedly agree. Who wants to
look at a cel and instead of thinking, "Wow,
that's beautiful," say to yourself, "Was it worth
it?". Because a pricey cel means sacrafices for
me, I'm pretty much assured that when I look at
my cels all I feel is darn lucky to own them.
