If you speak, or are learning Japanese, subbed
anime is great. But I run into so many fans that
don't speak more than a word or two of it and yet
go on and on about inflections and how much more
they get out of subs. I always giggle at that.
How the heck can you understand something as
subtle as inflection during what sounds like a
random stream of sound??! LOL. I think a lot of
them are just trying to appear as "authentically
Japanese" as possible. ;-)

I also much prefer to watch my anime than read it.
I'm a quick reader, and I still miss lots of
what's going on on the screen while I'm reading
text. What kind of tradeoff is it to see a
sentenced phrased slightly differently if you just
missed the look on the character's face or the
subtle glance that resulted from the dialogue?

Ix was the only person who ever explained her sub
preference in such a way that it made sense. She
mentioned things like little audible character
quirks which you miss out on in the dubs (like
funny little noises a character might habitually
make).

As a caveat, I would have to rank anime thusly:
-Good dubs
-Subs
-Bad dubs
