Personally, I'm against "adding" backgrounds. For your own
viewing pleasure it's fine, but if it's for a gallery, I
hope you are going to add that you "created the background"
because I am for one am sick of galleries that are trying
to pass off added backgrounds as the real deal.
I know that people do it for their own personal satisfaction
and because they think it is nicer way to present the cel,
but I think the cels themselves are the beauty. An original
background is a great find, and a laser copy if noted also
shows the correct representation of the cel, but any other
background which is not the one used in the anime is, in my
opinion just detracting from the cel and a statement that
you don't think that the cel holds up well enough on its
own. And this saddens me.
I hope that I don't step on any toes here as that was not
my intention and I am curious to see how other people feel
on this subject, but I stand strong in my belief. Yes it's
also true that many cels come with backrgounds and the new
owner may have no idea if it is the real one and in the
case of a show like sailormoon, there may be too many
episodes to check, but that, in my opinion, is not the same
as fabricating a background to "improve the look of the
cel."
