I don't deserve to have an opinion on the nose 
issue, since I've never seen Escaflowne. ^_^; But 
one of the things I like about anime-esque art 
are the unusual shapes. The eyes of one of my 
favorite characters, Clary, are a perfect 
example. Extremely angled in drawing style (my 
own drawing style is *all* extremely angled) and 
long, you'll-put-your-eyes-out-with-that-thing 
eyelashes. To me, the shapes and relatively simple
colors remind me of the artwork of Nagel(sp?) - 
the artist who did the cover of Duran Duran's 
album, Rio, in the 80s. (Amongst other things.) 
That's one of my favorite artists, along with 
Escher and Erte. Those favorites should well 
announce how I feel about realism in art. ^_^  
You only *need* so much. ^_~
