They have been doing the same thing at Nan Desu 
Kon, I think it sucks.  Fansubs are the best way 
to expose people to new anime in my opinion- I 
wish cons would show fansubs and let people vote 
on them if they so choose, and then make the 
results available to distributors.  
I had nice copies of Marmalade Boy, Kodomo No 
Omacha, and Yawara, to name a few, and I know a 
lot of people would have loved to watch them.  I 
saw the Utena movie fansubbed at Project A kon 
and everyone there loved it.  I ended up buying 2 
artbooks, the soundtrack, and cels- all before it 
was ever released here.
