Some people like the idea of owning a production cel (and will only buy such), and others simply like the artwork. As long as it is known in advance if it is a production cel or not, it will have little effect on the hobby. If anything, it will expand it a bit. However, anyone who tries to mislead people into buying their product should be taken out back and shot. Lets assume they have permission by the original copyright holders to produce and sell these. (as the eva handpainted cels) Will that change anything? The answer is yes...MORE businesses would be selling them. But as with the Eva cels, people are still willing for pay THOUSANDS for an original and not even consider the reproductions. Point being, the simple mindset that the cel isn't "real" makes it less desireable. -Parrallax |
