If Hanken cels are truely hand inked, their "trace lines" are on the top of the cel and the paint is on the back. If you look at the cel from a slight angle, you can see if the lines are on top or not. You will have to look VERY closely.
I don't own any Hanken cels, but I've seen a number of them on my tour of AIC. Also, some may have white paint dabbed on them. One Hanken I saw had a very dark background and a light colored character. White paint was dabbed on the character's face so it wouldn't look dark against the background.
