Still, the poster idea is a little off. People don't sell reproductions of the painting itself (as far as I know...I don't really pay attention to the oil on canvas market.) I think a better example in your case is when Van Gogh did 'reproductions' of some Japanese art (there was an exhibit at LACMA showing both the original and the Van Gogh version ...very entertaining, I don't know if the exhibit is still there though).
