Being a student w/o a job and a severely fixed income(a
few hundred a quarter for food, books, everything but rent)
I end up selling a few cels every now and then.
I borrow a lot of textbooks from friends(we all take the
same classes) and we pass them around.
That saves HUGE amounts of money!
I didn't have to buy this $140 math book so I was able to
get some Ruroni Kenshin gengas among other goodies this
month ^^
Oh yah, who am I, where did I get my handle, etc?
I'm a student at UC San Diego working towards an Applied
Mathematics degree and Cal Animage Beta officer. Another
officer got me started on collecting cels. His collection
is vastly superior to mine as he has loads and loads of
hanken cels, he's been collecting for a very long time,
plus he puts way more money into it than I do!
I got my handle from an obscure PC Engine(Turbo Graphix)RPG.
Before I started collecting anime cels, I collected PC
Engine games. There are still a few titles I'm looking for,
but seeing how cels get so expensive, it's hard for me to
collect more than 1 thing at a time(plus I have expensive
tastes!)
How I got into anime/what I collect:
When I was 5 years old, I went to Japan to see my family
and see some friends. I saw Zeta Gundam when it was on TV
and I loved it so much. I could barely understand what was
going on, but I loved the way the characters looked, what
they did and so forth. The rest is history.
Although I'm female, I don't really collect cels that are
typically collected by girls(Larva, Utena, bishonen.)
I really like collecting old Gundam stuff. It's very
difficult to come by nice stuff and when I do, it's BIG
bux! The closes thing to a cel of Hamaan I have is an
original drawing by character designer Hiroyuki Kitazume.
I'd still like to find a nice cel of Haaman Khan.
She was by far my childhood idol.
I started off with Slayers since I really liked the
character designs as well as the characters themselves.
Right now, I'm mainly into collecting things from Daichi's
films like Juubei Chan, Kodomo no Omocha, Red Ridinghood
Chacha, Fairy Princess Ren, Now and Then Here and There,
etc.
I also like Bubblegum Crisis(original AND 2040) as well as
Ruroni Kenshin(mondo mega costly!!)
I probably have about 80 cels but I don't really have a
gallery. I'm getting a scanner soon so hopefully I can
get a nice gallery set up!
